The 20th Annual Apple Valley Airshow hosted by the County’s Apple Valley Airport drew in spectators from all over Southern California on Saturday, Oct. 7.

The daylong event featured the USAF A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team with Capt. Lindsay “MAD” Johnson, along with the Air Force Heritage Flight Team performed by Steven Hinton in the P-51 Wee Willy II. The Napa® Auto Parts Car Show dazzled eventgoers with military and classic hot rods on display.

A clear, sunny beautiful day set the backdrop for a full schedule that included the Round Canopy Parachute USA Team paratroopers jumping from the C-53 Skytrooper D-Day Doll, Dawn Patrol RV Formation Team of seven, breathtaking aerobatics by the Undaunted Airshows formation, Air Racer Toney Higa in the Pitts S-1S, John Collver in his AT-6/SNJ “Wardog,” Yuchi Takagi in the Pitts, Torrey Ward in the Micro Jets, and Chuck Coleman, who trained actors for the Top Gun: Maverick movie, performing extreme aerobatics in his Extra 300L.

A STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Expo tent welcomed eventgoers of all ages where they could learn the principles of how to fly a plane, build a model airplane or rocket, and visit the General Atomics display presented by the defense and technology company based in San Diego, specializing in unmanned aircrafts. A portion of the proceeds provides scholarships for local students pursuing academia in the STEM field.

The event also included plenty of warbirds, food vendors, aviation booths, souvenirs and a rock-climbing tower activity for those daring enough to test their skills and endurance.
