San Bernardino County Chief Information Officer Lynn Fyhrlund’s efforts to implement cutting-edge information technology initiatives that have modernized county operations and increased efficiency have led Scoop News Group to name him a County Executive of the Year.

Each year, StateScoop recognizes people and projects that make a positive difference in local government technology through its LocalSmart Awards program. Starting in September, StateScoop invited local government IT professionals to nominate more than 200 leaders and projects to be considered for the award. The StateScoop team narrowed the list down to 100 finalists and readers cast their votes between Nov. 6 and Dec. 1 to decide the winners.

“We are very proud of Lynn’s selection as a County Executive of the Year,” said Board of Supervisors Chair and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “His contributions have significantly improved the county’s digital experience by boosting security and operational efficiency.”

Fyhrlund joined San Bernardino County in May 2023 after serving more than three years at Milwaukee County as its CIO. Since joining the county team, Fyhrlund has focused on replacing several IT systems and developing a new multiyear strategic plan for the county Innovation and Technology Department (ITD).

“I am extremely honored to be named County Executive of the Year,” said Fyhrlund. “I would like to thank StateScoop and its readers along with my colleagues, who I admire and respect for recognizing me in this extraordinary way.”

Since launching the LocalSmart Awards in 2019, StateScoop has recognized over 200 people and projects. This year’s awards highlighted 39 leaders and projects from 16 states with a total population ranging from 30,000 to more than 3.5 million residents.
