As the weekend approaches, the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a significant Pacific storm, bringing a combination of wind, rain and snow to communities across the region.

According to NWS, San Bernardino County will receive one to two inches of rain for most areas and up to two and a half inches of rain in the mountains. The storm is also expected to bring rounds of gusty winds and several inches of new snow above 6,500 feet.

In anticipation of this weekend’s storm, it’s important for residents to plan ahead for potentially hazardous conditions such as flooding and slippery roadways. Residents are encouraged to visit County Fire’s website for sand and sandbag availability. Additionally, if you plan to travel this weekend, please use extra caution on the roadway and allow for extra time to reach your destination.

County officials would also like to remind the public that snow play on the roadway is illegal in San Bernardino County. It results in unsafe road conditions by reducing visibility and creating slippery roadways, which increases the risk of traffic accidents. While the county welcomes visitors to explore the San Bernardino mountains, please wait until you reach your mountain destination to play in designated recreation areas.

Residents are also advised to take necessary precautions to keep warm during the inclement weather. Stay indoors as much as possible. Additionally, ensure safe heating by refraining from heating your home with a stove or a generator; the fumes can be deadly.

In anticipation of strong winds, please secure any loose items outside that can blow away and cause damage. Please stay away from trees and power lines, and never go near a downed power line.
