San Bernardino County Health Officer Dr. Michael Sequeira, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, advised county residents who live near a wildfire or in areas affected by smoke to stay alert, monitor changing smoke levels, and take appropriate precautions as needed.
Smoke from the fires pose serious health risks, especially for people with respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD or heart disease. County health officials recommend:
- avoiding outdoor activities.
- running air conditioning on recirculate.
- using a N95 mask outdoors to minimize exposure to smoke.
- keeping pets indoors and monitoring for breathing issues.
If experiencing chest pain, difficulty breathing or other health issues, contact a medical professional immediately.
