While witches, ghosts and goblins took to the streets for Halloween festivities, officers from the San Bernardino County Probation Department were hard at work conducting crucial compliance checks on offenders convicted of crimes against children. With a focus on public safety, these proactive visits help ensure a safe Halloween for families across the county by verifying that certain probationers abide by their Halloween curfews and avoid contact with trick-or-treaters.

During this year’s operation, county probation officers contacted 48 offenders, checking for compliance with specific restrictions in place to protect the community. These individuals are barred from engaging in certain Halloween activities, including decorating their homes or distributing candy—measures aimed at reducing the risk of children being inadvertently drawn to their residences. The objective of these checks is not only to monitor compliance but to reinforce the department’s commitment to safeguarding the public, especially the most vulnerable members of the community.

The operation was successful in uncovering several violations. Four individuals were taken into custody for probation violations, including breaking curfew, unauthorized internet use, and, in one case, a new charge for battery. These enforcement efforts underscore the dedication of county probation officers and their partner agencies, such as the Rialto Police Department, to maintaining a safe Halloween environment for all.

The Probation Department’s Halloween compliance checks demonstrate their proactive approach to community safety, even on nights when many are celebrating. This Halloween initiative is part of the broader goal to reduce recidivism and support a safe, welcoming atmosphere for families enjoying the holiday. By partnering with local law enforcement agencies and adopting preventative measures like Halloween curfews, the Probation Department is leading the way in community-centered, results-driven probation work.

As this year’s holiday celebrations continue, the department extends its gratitude to the dedicated officers who are out protecting the community. Their presence serves as a reminder of their tireless commitment to a safe, secure and supportive environment for all.
