The county’s Innovation and Technology Department (ITD) will soon manage and monitor the countywide information technology network with enhanced capabilities to support over 40 departments and agencies that serve over 2.2 million residents in San Bernardino County. To safeguard against cybersecurity threats and improve network reliability, ITD plans to implement NetBrain, a powerful network automation platform.
With NetBrain, ITD will gain real-time, dynamic mapping of the county’s network infrastructure, enabling ITD to observe connections across departments, quickly detect emerging issues and strengthen network security.
These features will allow Chief Technology Officer Lynn Fyhrlund and his team to quickly navigate the county’s vast and varied digital “terrain.”
“Our network is as diverse and complex as the geography of San Bernardino County,” Fyhrlund explained. “With NetBrain, we will be able to access real-time maps and signals that show exactly where our resources are needed, helping us to respond proactively and keep our services running smoothly, no matter where the need arises.”
In addition, NetBrain’s troubleshooting tools will allow ITD to diagnose and resolve network issues more efficiently by analyzing current and historical data and automating network changes through a streamlined workflow. This automation will be crucial for supporting over 23,000 public service professionals across all departments, enabling ITD to adapt to new challenges without risking service disruptions.
“Our focus is on leveraging technology that not only strengthens our infrastructure, but also maximizes the impact of our resources,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “By proactively managing network health and cybersecurity, ITD will ensure that San Bernardino County remains a leader in digital innovation and public service delivery.”
Through its partnership with NetBrain, ITD aims to further advance the Countywide Vision by using technology as a driver for positive change, making government services more efficient, secure, and accessible for all residents.
