The María Merced Williams and John Rains House, known for its architectural charm and historical significance, offers a memorable experience for couples and their guests. This collaboration aims to provide a special place for weddings and civil ceremonies, allowing couples to celebrate their love in a distinctive and meaningful way.

County marriage services are offered by the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk’s Office (ARC).

“Team ARC is excited to offer marriage services at the María Merced Williams and John Rains House,” said Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Chris Wilhite. “Our goal is to shine a spotlight on the hidden gems of San Bernardino County, showcasing unique venues that will make your celebration unforgettable, especially on unique dates such as 12/12.”

“The San Bernardino County Museum is proud to partner with ARC to offer this incredible opportunity to our county’s residents” said Museum Director David Myers. “The María Merced Williams and John Rains House is one of the true stars of the county’s museum and systems, and we think people will be thrilled to begin their lives together at a place with so much history and charm.”

The Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk’s Office will be present to handle all required paperwork, conduct the ceremony and ensure a smooth, stress-free experience for couples. Interested couples are highly encouraged to RSVP by Friday, Dec. 6, to ensure availability. Walk-ins are also accepted.

It was built in the mid-19th century and is significant for its connection to early California history. María Merced Williams, the daughter of a prominent California family, married John Rains, a figure in the region’s development. The house is known for its Spanish Revival architecture and its role in the cultural and historical development of the area. The property is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
