First 5 San Bernardino and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital staff pose in front of a display of colorfully decorated paper dolls.

First 5 San Bernardino is bringing attention to the needs of young children in a truly special way. To mark the annual Week of the Young Child celebration held this year April 5-11, a vibrant display of paper dolls fills the lobby at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital this week. Each paper doll was colored and creatively decorated by a young patient, allowing their personalities to shine in their artwork. From bold splashes of color to glittering decorations, the dolls radiated individuality, turning the hospital’s lobby into a gallery of hope and creativity.

The Week of the Young Child emphasizes the importance of early childhood education and the vital role it plays in shaping strong futures.

The first five years lay the foundation for a child’s success in school and later in life, and this week spotlights how we as a community can better meet the needs of all young children and their families.

“We are grateful to be partnering with Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and Children’s Fund to celebrate young children, their caregivers, teachers and families,” said Scott McGrath, deputy director at First 5 San Bernardino. “This display is a beautiful reminder of what we’re working towards—a brighter future for children prenatal through five years old.”
