Board of Supervisors invests in community initiatives
The board supported community initiatives using discretionary funding including:
- $10,000 from Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez’s District Specific Priorities Program to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California to support the 2025 Walk for Kids event in Fontana, a family-friendly 5K that raises awareness and funds for families with critically ill children. The event brings the community together while highlighting the organization’s mission to keep families close to the vital medical care their children need.
- $25,000 from Armendarez’s District Specific Priorities Program to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Employees’ Benefit Association (SEBA) Charity Fund to support three of its community-focused programs: the Fallen Heroes Fund, Everyday Heroes and Shop With a Cop. These initiatives honor first responders, provide assistance to public safety families, and create positive connections between youth and law enforcement.
These community investments align with the Countywide Vision by supporting access to essential healthcare services and fostering positive connections between the community and public safety personnel.
Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian extends long-term care ombudsman services to protect older residents
Aging and Adult Services-Public Guardian is extending its contract with WISE and Healthy Aging for the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, increasing the contract amount by $700,000 for a new total of $2.7 million and extending the agreement through June 30, 2026. This program advocates for the rights and well-being of residents in long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes and assisted living communities, by resolving complaints and ensuring care quality through certified ombudsman representatives, including trained staff and volunteers.
Funded by a blend of state, federal, and one-time resources, this contract amendment supports the program’s ongoing mission to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of older adults in long-term care facilities.
Supervisors identify top priorities in 2025-26 legislative platform
The board has established its top state and federal legislative and advocacy priorities for 2025–26. Key priorities include addressing the homelessness crisis through continued investment in prevention, outreach and housing programs; securing resources to support the Mt. Baldy Trail permit system and reimbursements for search and rescue operations; and expanding recreational opportunities by improving amenities at county Regional Parks.
The legislative platform also highlights the need to fill San Bernardino County Superior Court judicial appointments and funding to construct and renovate court facilities across the Inland Empire to address growing caseloads and ensure timely access to court services. Other high-level priorities include state advocacy for the proposed county Foster Youth Campus, which would provide a centralized, trauma-informed setting for foster youth services.
These targeted legislative efforts reflect the county’s broader commitment to achieving the Countywide Vision by improving quality of life, ensuring community safety and strengthening core infrastructure and human services programs across San Bernardino County.
Little Third Street and Little Tippecanoe Avenue Project update
County Public Works is entering into an approximately $3.5 million contract with Matich Corporation for the Third Street and Little Tippecanoe Avenue Project in the San Bernardino area. The infrastructure improvements include pavement rehabilitation, new asphalt, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm drains, streetlights, fencing, and upgraded ADA-compliant curb ramps.
Funded by $2.56 million in congressional community project funding and the Measure I Local Streets Program, the project will not require the use of discretionary general funding.
By preserving and improving the structural integrity of existing roads and enhancing access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, the county is working towards achieving the Countywide Vision.
