County officials and Public Works staff gathered this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Little Third Street and Little Tippecanoe Avenue Improvement Project in the unincorporated area of San Bernardino.

The $4 million project, funded by a $2.5 million federal earmark secured by Congressman Pete Aguilar, Measure I funds, and county contributions made possible by the San Bernardino County Board Supervisors, will reconstruct nearly 0.7 miles of road in the Little Third community. Upgrades include new sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, street widening, fencing and other critical safety features.

Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., who represents the area, emphasized the importance of community investment during the ceremony.

“I’m proud to celebrate this important accomplishment,” said Baca. “We’re making investments to improve roads, sidewalks and street features, making sure we have ADA ramps. This is a major step forward that will ensure our Little Third community continues to thrive.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was held just across the street from the project site at the San Bernardino County Public Works building, where officials recognized the years of planning, design and funding collaboration that brought the project to this point. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025 and be completed by the end of the year.
