San Bernardino County Airports Director Brett J. Godown has earned the distinguished designation of Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) – a prestigious credential held by fewer than six percent of the association’s approximately 10,000 members. Widely regarded as one of the highest professional honors in the aviation industry, this achievement reflects Godown’s deep expertise in airport operations, business administration and transportation economics.
“Earning this accreditation is a meaningful milestone in my career, but more importantly, it reinforces my commitment to leading a department that delivers real value to the communities we serve,” said Godown. “Our airports are vital connectors that fuel economic opportunities, support public safety, and enrich our quality of life. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s helping to shape the future of aviation in our county.”
Godown has served as the county’s airports director since early 2024, marking a return to the department where he began his aviation career. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as an airport operations supervisor and twice served as interim airport manager at Chino Airport. During that time, he gained hands-on experience managing day-to-day operations across the county’s six regional airports and leading critical infrastructure and planning projects.
“Brett’s dedication to professional excellence reflects his commitment to strengthening our aviation network and serving the residents and businesses that rely on it,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “His leadership brings valuable experience and vision to County Airports, and his guidance is helping to support our region’s growth.”
San Bernardino County Department of Airports manages, maintains and operates six county-owned airports: Apple Valley Airport, Baker Airport, Barstow-Daggett Airport, Chino Airport, Needles Airport, and Twentynine Palms Airport. In addition to overseeing these vital facilities, the department supports private and municipal airport operators across the region, offering guidance on planning and compliance with Federal Aviation Administration general aviation standards.
Framed by the county’s rugged natural beauty—from towering mountain ranges to vibrant desert landscapes—San Bernardino County remains a premier destination for aviators and a critical hub for aviation activity in Southern California. As County Airports continues to modernize and expand its role in regional aviation, Godown’s leadership and recent accreditation underscore the department’s growing impact in shaping transportation, commerce and community development across San Bernardino County.
