The San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office proudly highlights the role of Public Service Employees (PSEs) in advancing its mission to serve the community while offering individuals meaningful, entry-level experience in public service.

PSEs are extra-help or recurrent unclassified positions designed for temporary assignments or special projects. Within the Public Defender’s Office, these roles have proven to be more than just short-term support—they are a launchpad for those seeking to make a lasting difference through careers in law, technology and administrative services.

“The PSE role allows our department to support critical needs while giving individuals a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience,” said Jocelyn Muñoz, staff analyst II for the Public Defender’s Office. “It’s a win-win that strengthens our workforce and helps launch careers in public service.”

PSE opportunities provide:

  • Diverse, hands-on assignments that build foundational skills across multiple disciplines
  • Valuable real-world experience that supports long-term career development within the county and beyond
  • Opportunities that foster mentorship, professional growth and community impact

Through these roles, the Public Defender’s Office remains committed to providing equitable access to justice by developing the next generation of public service professionals—individuals driven not only by career goals but by a shared purpose to serve, support and uplift communities across San Bernardino County.
