San Bernardino County Regional Parks has been recognized with a prestigious 2025 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award for its innovative and community-focused 60th Anniversary Campaign, celebrating six decades of service, recreation and environmental stewardship across the county.

The NACo Achievement Award is a national honor that recognizes county government programs demonstrating creativity, efficiency and community impact. San Bernardino County’s 60th Anniversary Campaign was selected for its outstanding efforts in engaging the public, preserving park history, and promoting the role of parks as essential spaces for health, connection and conservation.

Since its establishment in 1964, San Bernardino County Regional Parks has provided residents and visitors with access to a wide range of outdoor recreational opportunities—from fishing and camping to hiking, equestrian use, and nature preservation. The department currently operates nine regional parks and maintains Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, a renowned wildlife habitat and birding destination.

The 60th Anniversary Campaign, launched in 2024, aimed to commemorate the parks’ history while increasing community participation and raising awareness about the variety of experiences available throughout the park system. The campaign featured special events hosted at each Regional Park and at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, including themed festivals, family-friendly activities, and environmental education programs. Visitors were encouraged to explore multiple parks by participating in the 60th Anniversary Passport to Fun, which awarded commemorative prizes to those who collected stamps at various anniversary events and parks throughout the year. This initiative fostered greater park exploration and introduced new audiences to the county’s scenic outdoor spaces.

As part of the celebration, the department also created a custom 60th Anniversary logo and commemorative patch, proudly worn by park rangers throughout 2024. The patch served as a visible tribute to the department’s six decades of public service and symbolized the commitment of Regional Parks staff to protecting natural resources while providing exceptional recreational experiences for the community.

Through these interactive events, commemorative programs and branding efforts, San Bernardino County Regional Parks reinforced its mission to provide safe, accessible and enriching recreational opportunities for all. The campaign highlighted the essential role parks play in promoting wellness, supporting conservation and fostering community connections.
