On Aug. 7, Assemblyman Tom Lackey recognized the Big Bear Alpine Zoo as the 34th Assembly District’s Small Business of the Month.

This special recognition honors the zoo’s outstanding service, dedication to wildlife education, and contributions to the Big Bear Valley community.

For more than 60 years, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo has served as an incredible sanctuary, rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting wildlife. Located in the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, it is one of only two alpine zoos in the United States.

“We are honored that Assemblyman Lackey has chosen to recognize our wonderful Big Bear Alpine Zoo,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “The zoo is one of many great attractions in the Big Bear Valley, attracting visitors from throughout Southern California. The county is proud to own and operate this beautiful facility and offer it to our residents and visitors as a place to gather, learn, and have fun.”

The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce and many community supporters joined the celebration, with Moonridge Coffee Company generously donating coffee and refreshments for attendees. The zoo staff appreciates everyone who joined them to celebrate this exciting milestone.

Plan your next visit to the zoo, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please visit bigbearzoo.org.
