The San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office, in partnership with the San Bernardino Superior Court and the High Desert Black Worker Center, will host its next Mobile Defense Program event on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at the Adelanto Plaza & Event Center.
The Mobile Defense Program provides equitable access to justice by bringing free legal assistance directly to the remote areas in San Bernardino County. At the Adelanto event, residents with San Bernardino County cases will have the opportunity to clear their records, helping remove barriers to housing and employment. Mobile court services will also be available to clear bench warrants, modify misdemeanor summary probation, re-enroll in court-required classes and resolve outstanding fines.
San Bernardino Superior Court Self-Help and Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino will also be on-site to answer questions related to family law, child support, guardianship, landlord/tenant and small claims court procedures.
In addition to legal and court services, San Bernardino County departments will be present to connect residents with health care, employment support, family services and public benefits. These departments include:
- Arrowhead Regional Medical Center – health services and resources
- Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk – vital records, document recording, business filings and property information
- Department of Behavioral Health – mental health and substance use resources
- Department of Child Support Services – assistance with cases and benefits
- Department of Public Health – free dental screenings and preventive care information
- Human Resources Department – county job opportunities and career counseling
- Transitional Assistance Department – social service information, application assistance, document services and case support
- Workforce Development Department – job resources, training and employment support
Community-based partners, led by the High Desert Black Worker Center, will also participate by offering workforce empowerment, housing and job readiness support, health and wellness services, immigration assistance, reentry programs and other community outreach resources.
“The Mobile Defense Program partnership represents more than just legal relief. It represents restoration and opportunity,” said Phyllis K. Morris-Green, chair of Reimagining Our Communities and advisory member of the High Desert Black Worker Center. “When we clear old warrants, fines, probation and other matters, we give High Desert residents the chance to fully participate in our economy and community with dignity and hope for the future.”
“The Mobile Defense Program is unique because it goes beyond legal assistance—we connect residents to county departments and community partners such as the High Desert Black Worker Center,” said Prisca So, supervising deputy public defender. “By offering health care, child support services, employment opportunities, behavioral health and more, these events bring resources together in one place, giving people equitable access to the support they need.”
