The San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office hosted its Mobile Defense Program event on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Adelanto Plaza & Event Center, providing free legal aid and county services to more than 200 residents in the High Desert.
The Mobile Defense Program expands access to justice in underserved areas of the county by offering free record-clearing assistance and mobile court services. Residents received help clearing low-level misdemeanor citations, addressing bench warrants and resolving outstanding fines. These services help individuals get a fresh start and open doors to employment and housing opportunities.
In addition to legal support, several San Bernardino County departments were present, including Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Department of Public Health, Department of Behavioral Health, Department of Child Support Services, Transitional Assistance Department and the Workforce Development Department. Community-based organizations, led by the High Desert Black Worker Center, offered job readiness, reentry support, immigration assistance and health and wellness resources.
“The Mobile Defense Program partnership represents more than just legal relief. It represents restoration and opportunity,” said Phyllis K. Morris-Green, chair of Reimagining Our Communities and advisory member of the High Desert Black Worker Center. “When we clear old warrants, fines, probation and other matters, we give High Desert residents the chance to fully participate in our economy and community with dignity and hope for the future.”
The next Mobile Defense Program event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Chaffey College Chino Campus, 5897 College Park Ave., in Chino. To register or learn more, visit PD.SBCounty.gov/Events or follow the Public Defender’s Office on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
