San Bernardino County Public Works/Special Districts is proud to celebrate Recreation Superintendent Aaron Speer, who has been named a finalist and honoree for the 2025 Distinguished Man of the Year Award at Senate District 29’s annual ceremony. This recognition honors exemplary men across the district whose dedication, leadership and community service set them apart, and Aaron embodies all of these qualities.
Born and raised in Twentynine Palms, Speer’s journey in public service began more than 20 years ago. From his early roles as a recreation coordinator, lifeguard and day camp instructor to leadership positions in Big Bear, Joshua Tree and now Bloomington, Speer has dedicated his career to building programs and spaces that bring people together. One of his proudest accomplishments has been helping to establish a park and recreation district in the unincorporated area of Bloomington, an achievement that continues to serve families and strengthen the community.
Speer leads with heart. His energy, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to others inspires his colleagues and the many residents he serves. Whether developing programs that enrich children’s lives, coaching local sports teams, or officiating high school and college basketball games, Speer pours his passion into every role he takes on.
“Aaron is a great advocate for the community of Bloomington and for all the residents he serves,” said Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. “His leadership and dedication have helped create spaces and programs that bring families together and give our youth opportunities to grow and succeed. I’m proud to see him recognized as a Distinguished Man of the Year — an honor that reflects not only his hard work, but the heart he puts into everything he does.”
San Bernardino County is fortunate to have a leader like Speer, one whose career is defined not just by the work he does, but by the heart he puts into it. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition as one of Senate District 29’s Distinguished Men of the Year.
