Groundhog Day may get people talking about how long winter will last, but in San Bernardino County, weather doesn’t always follow the calendar and conditions can change quickly, sometimes within the same week.
Forecasts show warm temperatures followed by cooler weather, and a chance of rain across Southern California. Since San Bernardino County includes mountains, valleys and desert areas, these changes can affect communities in different ways. Mountain areas may see melting snow followed by colder temperatures and icy roads, while other areas may experience warm days, cold nights, power outages and travel issues.
Rain combined with melting snow can also increase the risk of localized flooding in some areas. These changing conditions are a reminder that preparedness is important year-round.
Now is a good time to check emergency supplies, replace items used during recent storms and review your emergency plans. Staying informed and prepared can help households respond more easily when weather conditions change.
