We would like to thank Deana Bohnsack of Victorville for submitting outstanding photos of the Deep Creek Trailhead in Hesperia.
This moderate to difficult hike leads to natural hot springs and typically takes around two hours to complete. The hot springs are home to a wide range of rare and sensitive plant and animal species. To help protect these habitats, the hot springs area is limited to day use only. Camping is allowed at the Bowen Ranch parking area. From the trailhead, hikers descend roughly two miles into the canyon, which usually takes about 40 minutes. At the bottom of the canyon, youโll find Deep Creek and its nearby hot spring pools.
The return hike out of the canyon can be challenging and takes longer than the descent because it’s steep and uphill. In this remote High Desert area, temperatures can range from 20 to over 100 degrees, so adequate water and sun protection are essential. Sturdy hiking shoes with good traction are strongly recommended. Carrying a map or GPS device is advised, and hikers should begin early enough to ensure they complete the trail before dark.
Important reminders:
- Rattlesnakes inhabit the area, so use caution near rocks and ledges
- Carry plenty of drinking water
- Wear durable footwear suitable for steep terrain
- Use sunscreen and bring a hat and sunglasses
- Expect extreme heat during summer months
- Watch your footing on loose decomposed granite, debris and uneven trail sections
