Regional Parks springs forward park hours
Regional Parks will be extending park hours daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., starting Saturday, March 7 through May 15. The extended hours coincide with the beginning of daylight saving time, offering additional opportunities for communities to enjoy outdoor recreation later into the evening hours.
Participating parks include Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen, Mojave Narrows, Prado and Yucaipa Regional Parks.
Summer hours will begin on May 16 through Aug. 21, with parks closing at 8 p.m.
Whether it is coming out to fish, ride bikes, hike, barbecue and picnic with family and friends or play ball, Regional Parks offers many opportunities to recreate in a clean, safe environment. All parks are pet friendly as well!

Classic Characters come to life during March at County Library branches
Beloved storybook favorites, including Paddington Bear, Curious George and If You Give a Moose a Muffin, will take center stage this March as the San Bernardino County Library launches “Classic Characters Month,” a celebration featuring family-friendly programs, interactive activities and special incentives at 23 library branches throughout the county.
Designed to spark imagination and strengthen literacy, “Classic Characters Month” invites children and families to rediscover iconic characters through themed crafts, read-alouds, creative activities and character-inspired events held throughout the month.
“Our libraries are a place where stories come alive,” said County Library Program Coordinator Elizabeth Williams. “By highlighting beloved characters like Paddington Bear and Curious George, we’re helping families connect joyful memories with reading and encouraging young readers to explore books in a fun and meaningful way.”
In addition to literacy-based activities, select events will feature face painters and balloon artists, giving children the chance to transform into their favorite storybook characters and further immerse themselves in the magic of classic tales.
As part of the celebration, patrons who meet their branch’s checkout requirements during the “Classic Characters Month” event will earn a special reward and an opportunity to win the grand prize. All events are free and open to the public. Programs are designed primarily for children and families, though all ages are welcome to attend.
During “Classic Characters Month,” patrons who check out 30 items will receive a classic character plush keychain of their choice while supplies last. Three designs will be available.

Code Enforcement to host community cleanup event in Landers
San Bernardino County Code Enforcement and the Solid Waste Management Division will be hosting a free bulky item disposal event for residents of the county’s unincorporated areas. During this event, disposal containers will be available for accumulated trash, e-waste and tires, along with on-site confidential document shredding services. No business materials will be accepted. Free disposal services will end at noon or when the equipment is full.
Residents are asked to secure and properly cover their loads before traveling to the site. Those bringing tires are limited to nine per load, in accordance with state law. Tires on rims will be accepted.
Participants must unload their own materials. Oversized or hard-to-handle loads may be turned away and directed to dispose of items at their own expense.
Accepted items include household trash, bulky items, green waste and vehicle tires. Concrete will not be accepted. The Urban Conservation Corps will collect electronics such as TVs, computer monitors, VCRs, stereos and cell phones.
Hazardous waste will not be accepted. Prohibited items include household and auto batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline, pesticides, fertilizers, fluorescent lights, pool chemicals, paint products and medications.
Compost will be available free of charge. You must bring your own containers and shovels and load the materials yourself.

Animal Care to host mobile services event at Glen Helen Regional Park
San Bernardino County Animal Care is bringing essential pet services directly to the community through its mobile services event on March 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Glen Helen Regional Park, located at 2555 Glen Helen Parkway in San Bernardino.
Residents living in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County are invited to take advantage of this opportunity while supplies last. To confirm eligibility, community members should enter their address into the service area map before attending. Participants must bring a valid photo ID to verify residency. If the address on the ID is not current, a recent utility bill may be presented along with the ID as proof of residence.
For everyone’s safety, dogs must remain on a leash and cats must be secured in individual carriers. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register through the event webpage and complete intake forms in advance to help streamline the process. Intake forms are available in both English and Spanish.

- Dog licensing: To qualify for the discounted licensing price, you will need to bring proof of your pet’s spay/neuter. Additionally, proof of a previous rabies vaccine is required to receive a license. If your pet does not have proof of a rabies vaccine, they may receive the vaccine at the event before obtaining the license.
- Vaccinations: $10 each (FVRCP, Rabies, Bordetella, DA2PP, Leptospirosis). If you would like to receive a 3-year rabies vaccine instead of a 1-year vaccine, you must provide proof of the previous rabies vaccination.

Save the Date: Arthropalooza – Ultimate Bug Fest!
Arthropalooza returns as one of the San Bernardino County Museum system’s premier annual events, inviting residents from across the county to celebrate the fascinating world of arthropods. Designed for curious minds of all ages, this high-energy festival blends hands-on activities, close-up encounters and interactive learning experiences that reveal how insects, arachnids and other small creatures help sustain the ecosystems that support life on Earth.
At the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands, visitors can step inside a live butterfly tent for an immersive, up-close experience with these delicate pollinators. Master Gardeners will also be on-site to share insights into the vital relationship between insects and healthy gardens, offering practical knowledge about pollination, native plants and sustainable growing practices.
At the Victor Valley Museum in Apple Valley, Master Food Preservers will demonstrate how insects connect to our food systems and agricultural practices, highlighting the role these small organisms play in food production and preservation. Special talks throughout the day at both locations will explore insects and food from ecological, agricultural and scientific perspectives—bringing together curiosity and real-world relevance.
Beyond the activities and demonstrations, Arthropalooza offers something equally valuable: the opportunity to gather with a community united by curiosity. The festival atmosphere brings together families, enthusiasts, educators and neighbors who share a sense of wonder about the natural world. It is a welcoming space to connect, ask questions and celebrate the remarkable diversity of life that surrounds us every day.
Arthropalooza will take place at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on March 21 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at the Victor Valley Museum in Apple Valley on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The San Bernardino County Museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands. The Victor Valley Museum is located at 11873 Apple Valley Road in Apple Valley. Both locations offer free parking and are accessible to people with disabilities.
Admission prices are $10 for adults, $8 for military or seniors, $7 for students and $5 for children ages 6–12. Children five and under and County Museum members are admitted free.
Regional Parks to hold hiring event for lifeguards and pool managers
San Bernardino County Regional Parks is now accepting applications online for lifeguards and pool managers for the 2026 swim season at Glen Helen and Yucaipa Regional Parks’ swim facilities, which starts on Memorial Day weekend.
A hiring event will be held on Saturday, Mar. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Regional Parks administration office located at 268 W. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino. The event will accept walk-in applicants for interviews and potential same-day offers.
Lifeguards are responsible for protecting the public against accidents in the swim facilities, properly administering first aid/CPR if an accident should take place, and properly maintaining and operating pool, waterslide and park equipment.
Pool managers are responsible for training, leading and supervising lifeguards, and ensuring customers adhere to pool rules while maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times. Pool managers conduct opening and closing procedures, review the daily slide checks, waterslide maintenance log documentation, and maintain a fun, safe environment.
Salary
Depending on experience, lifeguards can earn anywhere from $18 to $21 an hour and pool managers can earn from $23 to $26 an hour.
Certification requirements
- Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
- Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), first aid, and AED (automated external defibrillator) certifications. Reimbursements for certifications may be provided by the department.
Minimum requirements
LIFEGUARD: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Note: An approved work permit will be required prior to the first day of employment if under the age of 18.
POOL MANAGER: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older and possess a minimum of four years of lifeguard experience. Additional supervisory experience may be substituted for the required lifeguard experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.

A healthy partnership: Preschool Services and Public Health provide essential health services to children in Head Start and Early Head Start
The San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department and the San Bernardino County Public Health Department have partnered to provide comprehensive health screenings for children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The initiative deploys mobile health clinics directly to preschool sites to ensure students can complete required health assessments on time.
While Public Health provides preventive screenings, exams and health education to families, Preschool Services coordinates the planning and outreach to ensure resources reach the families who need them most. The mobile clinics offer hearing and vision screenings and full physical examinations to ensure children are healthy, able to see and hear clearly, and ready to succeed in school and beyond.
The partnership reduces the time parents must take off work to complete the screenings and minimizes the time children are away from the classroom by making clinical services available in neighborhoods and at school sites. The mobile clinics serve as efficient, one-stop locations where families can access high-quality care close to home. Completing the screenings helps families connect to services, supports healthy growth and development and gives children the best chance to thrive at home and in school.
Conducting these assessments during the critical early years of language and cognitive development also facilitates early detection of potential developmental or medical concerns. Early identification allows for timely intervention, preventing minor health issues from escalating into significant long-term challenges. Ultimately, this proactive approach to care leads to better long-term health outcomes, fewer missed school days and greater peace of mind for families.
Families with children in Head Start or Early Head Start are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to support their child’s success. Parents or guardians of enrolled children must call 909-458-9447 to schedule a health screening appointment for their child.

County Library launches Session 2 programs
Spring is in the air, and the San Bernardino County Library is welcoming the season with Session 2 of library programs, running through April 12. This new lineup continues the County Library’s mission of fostering connection, curiosity and community with a wide variety of free programs for readers, learners and creators of all ages.
Session 2 offers fresh opportunities for families, teens and adults to explore, discover and engage in:
