

Regional Parks second trout derby heads to Mojave Narrows this Saturday

Regional Parks is excited to welcome back the one-day trout derby with our second event scheduled on Saturday, March 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mojave Narrows Regional Park. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. and pre-paid derby fees are encouraged. Derby fees are $20 per person and $10 per vehicle. A fishing license is required for all participants ages 16 years and older.
Participants will receive a wristband and packet with derby entry forms and rules.
Regional Parks will have a weigh-in station available and encourages participants to allow plenty of time to weigh and enter their fish prior to the 1 p.m. cutoff time.
Derby cash prizes will be awarded for:
First place: $1,000
Second place: $500
Third place: $250
Winners do not need to be present to claim their prize(s). Winners will be announced at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the Regional Parks weigh-in station area.

Mojave Narrows Regional Park is located at 18000 Yates Rd. in Victorville. Park hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is closed on Christmas Day.
Trout is stocked weekly on Thursdays with 747 pounds of trout. For the derby, 1,315 lbs. of trout, including lightning trout, will be stocked on Friday, March 7. The lakes will be closed to public fishing on Friday, March 7 and will reopen to the public after the derby ends.

Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park to host ‘All About Birds’ activity

Join us at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to noon for a tour of the park to learn about the type of birds that are found throughout the park.
Activities also include learning how to build a bird feeder and other arts & crafts. All ages are welcome, and all supplies are provided, while they last.
Admission is $10 per vehicle. Make a day out of this educational event and pack a picnic or come and enjoy a day of fishing at our lakes or enjoy the playground and splash pad. Leashed pets are welcome!
Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 800 N. Archibald Ave., in Ontario next to Top Golf.

Admission is $10 per vehicle and free for those camping with us. Yucaipa Regional Park offers fishing (seasonally stocked every Thursday with trout through the end of March), playground area, picnic areas with grills, biking, hiking and plenty of room to run and play. Leashed pets are welcome too!

Victor Valley Museum celebrates National Quilting Month with paper quilting workshop and live demonstration

In honor of National Quilting Month, Victor Valley Museum (VVM) has partnered with Quilters Piece Corps and is excited to invite the community to explore the intricate art of quilting through unique quilting demonstrations and hands-on activities. This special event, taking place on Saturday, March 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will showcase the creativity and craftsmanship behind quilting, offering both hands-on experiences and professional insights into this beloved craft.
A live demonstration by expert quilters will also be held, offering visitors an in-depth look at traditional and contemporary quilting techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, observe the quilting process up close, and even get inspired to try their hand at creating their own fabric quilts in the future.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to appreciate the artistry and heritage of quilting,” said Curator of Visitor Engagement Tiffany Talavera. “Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or a beginner, our workshop and demonstration are designed to inspire creativity and provide a fun, educational experience for everyone.”
No prior quilting experience is required to participate. Materials for the paper quilting workshop will be included in regular museum admission.

County museums to host annual Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest

If creepy crawlies don’t give you the creeps, then maybe Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest will. Join us on Saturday, March 29 or Sunday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the San Bernardino County Museum and Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Victor Valley Museum to celebrate all things creepy, crawly, sticky, prickly, wiggly, yucky and kind of cute. This family-friendly event promises an interactive, educational, and fun-filled experience for visitors of all ages, with special activities, live demonstrations, and expert-led conversations that explore the beauty and significance of the insect world.
This year’s events will guarantee a fascinating look into the world of insects through outdoor exploration and hands-on art activities as well as face painting, food and local artisans. Stop by the Flutterby Ranch butterfly zone from 1 to 4 p.m. and enjoy an interactive and immersive experience designed to captivate, educate and provide an inside look into the enchanting world of butterflies.

In-N-Out Burger Cover to Cover Reading Program returns

Get ready for a delicious opportunity at the County Library! From March 1 to April 12, the San Bernardino County Library is teaming up with In-N-Out Burger for its annual reading promotion event. The Cover to Cover program encourages kids in every community across the county to dive into books and earn a free hamburger or cheeseburger as a tasty reward.
To participate, simply sign up online through Beanstack at sbclib.beanstack.org. Every time a child reads five books or 300 pages, they’ll unlock an achievement award on Beanstack, and a voucher will be available at their local County Library branch. Children ages four to 12 are eligible to participate and must be present to redeem their vouchers. Each child can earn up to three awards throughout the program. Happy reading!

Regional Parks to hold hiring event with same day offers for lifeguards, pool managers for upcoming swim season

San Bernardino County Regional Parks is now accepting applications online for lifeguards and pool managers for the 2025 swim season at Glen Helen and Yucaipa Regional Parks’ swim facilities, which starts Memorial Day weekend. A hiring event will be held on Saturday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Regional Parks administration office located at 268 W. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino. The event will accept walk-in applicants for interviews and potential same day offers.
Lifeguards are responsible for protecting the public against accidents in the swim facilities, properly administering first aid/CPR if an accident should take place, and properly maintaining and operating pool, waterslide and park equipment.
Pool managers are responsible for training, leading and supervising lifeguards. In addition, they must ensure customers adhere to pool rules while maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times. Pool managers conduct opening and closing procedures, review the daily slide checks, waterslide Maintenance Log documentation, and maintain a fun, safe environment.
Salary
Lifeguards can earn anywhere from $17 to $19 an hour, depending on experience (DOE) and pool managers can earn from $22 to $25 an hour, DOE.
Certification requirements
- Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
- Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certifications. Reimbursements for certifications may be provided by the department.
Minimum requirements
LIFEGUARD: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Note: An approved work permit will be required prior to the first day of employment if under the age of 18.
POOL MANAGER: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a minimum of four years of lifeguard experience. Additional supervisory experience may be substituted for the required lifeguard experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
