We would like to thank Donald Purdey of Redlands for submitting spectacular photos of his favorite San Bernardino County destination.
The Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum of Assemblage Art in Joshua Tree features the work of Noah Purifoy, one of the nation’s most renowned assemblage sculptors. Before becoming an artist, Purifoy was a high school industrial arts teacher and social worker. The outdoor museum spans several acres and displays dozens of large-scale assemblage sculptures created by Purifoy from 1989 to 2004. The sculptures are made from a variety of materials, including castoff metals, burnt wood and blown-out rubber tires. They range from political statements to more site-specific pieces. A brochure is available at the entrance, which provides more information about the various sculptures.
The museum is open from sunrise to sundown, and is located at 63030 Blair Lane, Joshua Tree. For more information, please visit www.noahpurifoy.com/joshua-tree-outdoor-museum.
