San Bernardino County is pleased to welcome Samantha Marquez as its new director of Legislative Affairs in the Office of Governmental and Legislative Affairs. Marquez brings more than a decade of experience in legislative strategy, policy development and stakeholder engagement across state and local government, along with a deep commitment to public service.
Before joining the county, Marquez served as district director to the Assembly majority leader of the state of California, where she led community engagement, legislative outreach and stakeholder coordination across a broad range of policy areas. Her career also includes providing public affairs and legislative communications strategies to clients in the public and private sectors, representing industries from energy and education to health care, hospitality and nonprofits.
In her new role, Marquez will lead the county’s Legislative Affairs division, overseeing bill tracking, policy review and collaboration with state and federal partners. Her leadership will be instrumental in advancing the county’s legislative priorities and ensuring that local voices are represented at every level of government. Marquez will also help shape the county’s biannual legislative platform, aligning it with the Countywide Vision.
“San Bernardino County has a strong voice in shaping legislation that impact our residents, businesses and communities,” said Marquez. “I’m honored to join a team that is dedicated to advocacy rooted in collaboration, accountability and service. My goal is to help ensure that every legislative effort reflects the needs and priorities of the people who call this county home.”
With her strategic insight and strong legislative relationships, Marquez will enhance the county’s ability to advocate for residents and advance policies that promote thriving, safe and sustainable communities throughout the region.
