On Saturday, Feb. 14, the San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk made history by opening its doors for the first time on Valentine’s Day to perform marriage ceremonies, officiating a total of 72 unions throughout the day.

Leading the celebration was Assessor Josie Gonzales, who welcomed couples from across the region and beyond. Some traveled from as far as Guadalajara, Jalisco, while others came from neighboring counties that were closed for the holiday. The special Saturday opening gave many couples the opportunity to exchange vows on one of the most romantic days of the year.

To commemorate the occasion, Assessor Gonzales presented each newly married couple with a specially designed, individually numbered “Sweetheart Special Edition” marriage certificate, created exclusively for the Valentine’s Day ceremonies. The keepsake added an extra touch of significance to an already memorable day.

“We were happy to open our doors on Valentine’s Day to serve couples who wanted to begin their new lives together on such a meaningful date,” said Assessor Gonzales. “Seeing so many couples come to San Bernardino County to celebrate their love was truly heartwarming. By opening on Saturday, we were able to make it easier for family members and loved ones to attend the ceremonies and share in the couple’s celebration. We are proud to provide services that make moments like this special and accessible for our community.”

The Valentine’s Day event marked a milestone for the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk’s Office, reflecting its commitment to expanding access to services while helping couples create lasting memories on their wedding day.
