We are proud to present another episode of the Did You Know video series featuring Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe who shares a fun fact about one of the countyโ€™s most unique places.

Did you know the Big Bear Alpine Zoo is one of only two Alpine zoos in the United States? It originally opened in 1959 as a wildlife rehabilitation center after a devastating wildfire. Today, the zoo cares for more than 85 species, many of which are native to the San Bernardino mountains. About 90 percent of the animals brought in for rehabilitation are released back into the wild. The zoo is also home to incredible animals like bald eagles. Discover even more to love about San Bernardino County by visiting love.sbcounty.gov.
