Staff from the San Bernardino County Public Health Department’s Friday Night Live program hosted students from Colony High School for a field trip at the department. During their visit, students participated in interactive activities, learned about County Public Health services and met employees from across the department.

Students took part in workshops designed to help them explore leadership styles and strengthen their ability to support advocacy and prevention efforts in their schools and communities. The activities focused on building awareness around preventing alcohol, tobacco, opioid and other drug use.

Students also learned about career pathways in public health and gained insight into the day-to-day operations and services provided throughout San Bernardino County. With many students interested in health care careers, Friday Night Live staff arranged a tour of the department’s mobile testing and medical units.

“This was a really nice opportunity for the students to experience and learn more about opportunities within the Department of Public Health and the services that are provided throughout the county, especially in the hard-to-reach regions,” said Chelsea McCormick, Colony High School teacher.

Friday Night Live is a youth led leadership program focused on preventing alcohol, tobacco, opioid and other drug use. Students participate in projects throughout the year that promote awareness, leadership development and healthy lifestyles.
