The project was led by the Bloomington Recreation and Parks District, with input from local residents through listening sessions and a community survey. The mural is part of the statewide Creative Corps Inland SoCal initiative, a post-pandemic effort to engage communities and employ artists. The initiative, supported by Arts Connection, provided funding for 51 public art projects across the Inland Empire, including this one.
During the unveiling event, San Bernardino County Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. presented Cortez with a plaque in recognition of her work. The mural, which involved collaboration with local youth, is designed to reflect Bloomington’s identity and foster a sense of pride and belonging.
Kessler Park now features this new piece of public art, made possible through the contributions of local residents, the leadership of Arts Connection and Cortez’s creative vision.
