In October, the San Bernardino County Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) participated in a collaborative tour of the San Timoteo Sanitary Landfill and Sheep Creek Transfer Station as part of USAID’s Clean Cities Blue Ocean (CCBO) program.

The event, coordinated by Tetra Tech, SWMD’s landfill engineering consultant, brought together staff from the Pohnpei State Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, local solid waste municipalities, USAID, CCBO and Tetra Tech.

The tour provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange. SWMD staff showcased the county’s landfill construction, operations and regulatory practices, while learning about solid waste management approaches used in other regions. Discussions covered the technical aspects of waste management as well as the role of government policies in creating integrated systems.

This event highlighted the value of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in advancing effective waste management practices. The contributions of SWMD staff were instrumental in fostering meaningful discussions and building connections that can benefit both local and global waste management efforts.
