Michael Jimenez, who rose through the ranks of the County Library system, was appointed County Librarian by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
Jimenez began his career with the County Library in 2007 as a Librarian I in Fontana in charge of Youth Services. He worked his way up as a library branch manager in Rialto and Hesperia. His most recent position was Library Regional Manager overseeing up to 25 branch libraries and most recently has been responsible for the day to day operations of Library Administration.
Jimenez’s leadership and passion for learning have been an asset to the department and communities served by the vast library system. This past fiscal year, he led the library team to exceed the summer reading sign-up performance goal while reaching an all-time circulation of 5.4 million books and materials.
Jimenez earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, San Bernardino and a master’s degree in library and information science from North Carolina Central University. In 2015, he received San Bernardino County’s Award for Excellence for the department.
