New Testing Billboards Debuts in the County This Weekend

This weekend motorists should notice a new series of billboards that the County has launched asking residents to help fight COVID-19 by getting tested. Whether you are showing symptoms are not, the more we can all get tested, the better chance we have to get San Bernardino County off the state’s Monitoring List.

The billboards have been generously donated by General Outdoor Advertising who has been a valuable partner is helping keep our communities informed. “We recognize that these billboards are one the best ways for San Bernardino County residents to get this message about getting tested, and we’re very proud to be able to donate the space in order to support our community,” said Tim Lynch, owner and president of General Outdoor Advertising.

The County appreciates our community partners like General Outdoor Advertising who have continued to step up. They have epitomized our rallying cry that together we can fight this virus and reopen our economy.

Find a Cool Space Indoors during this Heat Wave

We are in the middle of an Excessive Heat Warning and we want everyone to be safe! The County website has this list of indoor cooling centers, each with their own operating hours and restrictions. With conditions constantly in flux due to COVID-19, be sure to call the venue before visiting. Seniors can also take advantage of the Senior Information and Assistance Hotline at 1-800-510-2020.

Please stay inside as much as possible, especially during the hottest time of day between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Limit your exposure to the sun, and if you do go outside, take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, find shade, and wear light clothing and a hat.

Children, older adults, and pets tend to be more vulnerable to extreme heat, so monitor family members and check-in with friends, family, and neighbors to make sure they’re okay. This is especially important for those that don’t have air conditioning.

County Director of Public Health Urges all Residents to Get Tested

If we want to beat back the coronavirus, and move to reopen our economy, we need to stop the spread of COVID-19. Our County’s Public Health Director Corwin Porter shares this important Public Service Announcement from one of the County’s many testing sites, to share why testing is important, and show us how easy and painless it is.

Take a minute to click on this video about COVID-19 testing, and please consider sharing the video on your own social media platforms. We’re all in this together, and together we can get SB County off the state’s Monitoring List.

More Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19; Six Additional Sheriff’s Employees

As of today, a total of 303 County jail inmates have tested positive for COVID-19. Many of the inmates are only experiencing minor symptoms of the virus. The infected inmates are in isolation, being monitored around the clock, and are being provided with medical treatment. Federal patient privacy guidelines restrict the release of additional information regarding the identity of the inmates or their medical treatment.  A total of 274 inmates have recovered from the illness.

All inmates continue to be provided with face coverings, cleaning supplies, soap, and are urged to wash their hands repeatedly throughout the day. They are routinely reminded of the need to practice social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Six additional department employees tested positive for COVID-19 and are self-isolating at home.  A total of 170 department employees have tested positive for COVID-19.  One hundred and fifty-nine employees have recovered from the virus; other employees are expected to return to work in the next few weeks.

1. Open up our county. Remove mask mandates and re-open our state. This is an obvious attempt by Newsom to hold the state sequestered in order to push mail in voting. Not only that but I along with many Californians find it incredibly suspicious that Newsom mandated mask shortly after closing the 1.4 billion mask deal with China and then Newsom’s infamous Covid 19 data glitch has been anything but transparent. There has been absolutely no transparency. We cannot trust Newsom, ( he closed down our county’s bars And restaurants but kept his wineries/ restaurants open) we cannot allow the continued decline of our local economy, people are dying but it isn’t over covid. People are sinking into depression and committing suicide at rates that already have surpassed last years rates. Families cannot afford to go on living on unemployment. This affects disadvantaged groups such as single moms like myself. It has been tremendously hard and stressful. Im worried that very soon I won’t be able to afford to pay my bills or home if my unemployment benefits run out and my job decides not to re-open soon.

  2. Would someone explain to me why if more people get tested, we will have a better chance of getting of the monitoring list? I thought that for county to get of the monitoring list the fourteen days new COVID cases per 100,000 must be less than 100. I also heard both Trump and Newsom tell us that the number of new cases are so high because we are testing more people. So testing more people with no symptoms should keep us on monitoring list longer rather than getting us of the list. Am I missing something? If someone gets tested negative today does not mean that he cannot catch the virus next day. So what is the point testing the entire 2 million population of our county. This will do more harm than good by creating a bottleneck for those who show symptoms, are healthcare workers, are in nursing home or are of old age who really need to get tested.

    1. If we only test sick people our positivity rate will be high. If we test everyone who can get a test regardless of symptoms not only will we have a more accurate picture of the virus in our county so we can stop asymptomatic people from inadvertently spreading the virus, we can also bring our positivity rate down. If we do that, we will meet state metrics to reopen businesses and schools.

      1. Reply to county of San Bernardino August 24 – You are correct , the positivity rate will go down but the 14 days Covid cases per 100,000 will go way up. So it helps meeting one criteria but hurts meeting the other criteria set by Newsom. May be Newsom should take another look at criteria he set.
Do you realize that a negative test result only means that the person was virus free at the time sample was drawn and could very well be infected when he got the result. This could be very misleading, give false hope and allow the tested person to inadvertently spread virus. In theory testing everybody only makes sense if you can test everybody every day. But that can only happen in White House.

  3. Sirs, when are you going to start enforcing the mask mandate and take enforceable action against businesses who defy state orders? Infections continue to rise. Obviously the virus isn’t going away and things are getting worse.
It’s time to start citing and fining individuals for not wearing masks much the same as enforcing seat belt laws. The time for voluntary compliance is over. It’s obviously not working.
