The San Bernardino County Library (SBCL) invites residents to have a ‘splash-tastic’ time at several local libraries for our Under the Sea events during the month of August. Cool down and enjoy an amazing experience with fun-filled crafts, face painting, balloon artists, and games while browsing for books, magazines and more.

Visitors should bring their library cards, as every 15 items checked out during the events earns visitors a fun incentive and an opportunity drawing ticket for a chance to win awesome prizes. 

All activities are free and open to all ages.  Throughout the month of August, every 30 items checked out, customers will receive a special Under the Sea incentive, magic sand!

The SBCL Under the Sea events will take place in the following locations:

  • Aug 5 from noon to 1 p.m. (The Baker Family Learning Center and Library at 2818 Macy St. in Muscoy)
  • Aug 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. (The Newton T. Bass Apple Valley Library at 14901 Dale Evans Pkwy. in Apple Valley)
  • Aug 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. (The James S. Thalman Library at 14020 City Center Dr. in Chino Hills)
  • Aug 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. (The Lewis Library & Technology Center at 8437 Sierra Ave. in Fontana)
  • Aug 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. (The Sam J. Racadio Library & Environmental Learning Center at 7863 Central Ave. in Highland)
  • Aug 16 from 3 to 4 p.m. (The Mentone Library at 1331 Opal Ave. in Mentone)
  • Aug 16 from 4 to 5 p.m. (The Montclair Library at 9955 Fremont Ave. in Montclair)
  • Aug 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. (The Hesperia Library at 9650 7th Ave. in Hesperia)
  • Aug 19 from 2 to 3 p.m. (The Barstow Library at 304 East Buena Vista in Barstow)
  • Aug 24 from 3 to 4 p.m. (The Crestline Library at 24105 Lake Gregory Dr. in Crestline)
  • Aug 28 from 4 to 5 p.m. (The Loma Linda Library at 25581 Barton Rd. in Loma Linda)
  • Aug 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. (The Lake Arrowhead Library at 27235 Hwy. 189 in Blue Jay)

Family Paint Event

The Bloomington Library Branch will be hosting an Under the Sea family paint event, where residents can paint their own ocean-themed masterpiece.

August 26 from 2-3 p.m. (The Bloomington Library at 18028 Valley Blvd. in Bloomington)

These events are another opportunity to celebrate and support the Countywide Vision’s literacy campaign, Vision2Read. The library plays a key role in the achievement of the Countywide Vision by contributing to the educational, cultural, and historical development of our county community.
