Mosquitoes are not just pesky insects, they also pose a significant threat to human health. Mosquitoes are known to transmit diseases such as dengue fever, West Nile virus, Zika virus and malaria.
Everyone can play an important role in managing mosquito populations by implementing preventive measures like:
- Eliminating standing water sources
- Using insect repellents that contain DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus
- Maintaining pools, bird baths, fountains, and ponds
- Reporting green pools and other sources of standing water
By emphasizing the shared responsibility of mosquito control, the Mosquito and Vector Control Program (MVCP) aims to show residents that mosquito control is in their hands.
To request a courtesy inspection, or to report green pools, please call or text MVCP at (800) 442-2283 or email ehs.customerservice@dph.sbcounty.gov. For more information, please visit MVCP’s website.
Together, we can make a real impact in managing mosquito populations and protecting the health of our community.
