This past weekend the American Red Cross Southern California Region, San Bernardino County Fire and numerous groups banded together to “Sound the Alarm” in San Bernardino. The event focused on installing smoke detectors, aiming to reduce fire-related injuries and deaths.
Through a collaborative effort the 108 volunteers furnished and installed 262 smoke alarms. Crews were able to contact and educate 448 residents on fire safety and the importance of a home escape plan.
Sound the Alarm home fires claim seven lives everyday, but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half.
Sound the Alarm is a critical part of the campaign. Through home visits, we’ve installed more than 2.5 million free smoke alarms and made more than one million households safer across the country.
That’s why the American Red Cross is rallying volunteers to install free smoke alarms nationwide, as part of its Sound the Alarm events.
