The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) has awarded San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey with the esteemed Patriot Award.
Established in 2023, the Patriot Award recognizes first responders and public safety agencies that utilize FirstNet technology to enhance community safety. Chief Munsey was honored for his exceptional leadership and innovative use of broadband technologies to protect and safeguard the community.
Chief Munsey’s contributions extend beyond his local duties; he also chairs the International Association of Fire Chiefs Technology Council, where he collaborates with peers to integrate advanced technology into fire services. As an advocate of public safety broadband, he has partnered with the FirstNet Authority to develop valuable resources aiding fire agencies in adopting FirstNet capabilities. His dedication to leveraging technology for the betterment of public safety highlights the spirit of the Patriot Award, celebrating leaders who are making communities safer through innovation.
The FirstNet Authority, an independent agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), oversees FirstNet, the nation’s dedicated communications network for emergency responders and the public safety community.
Established in response to the communication challenges faced during the September 11, 2001 tragedy, the FirstNet Authority ensures that first responders have a reliable, nationwide broadband network. This network provides priority and preemption features, ensuring that public safety communications are given the highest priority, even during high-traffic situations.
Through its partnership with AT&T, the FirstNet Authority continues to advance public safety communications, supporting a robust ecosystem of apps, devices and capabilities designed to keep communities safe.
