Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector (ATC) Ensen Mason is pleased to present another riveting story of the many great county residents that have served in his position since 1853.

G. Leon Gregory began his career as a deputy constable in August 1941. He entered naval service in April 1942, serving over two years overseas on the U.S.S. Tarpon and U.S.S. Angler. Gregory returned to his role as a deputy constable in the county courthouse in November 1945.

Gregory went on to serve as tax collector from 1948 to 1970. In addition to his role with the county, he became the first commander of Post 14 of the American Legion, past president of the Native Sons of the Golden West (Arrowhead Parlor) and a member of the Eagles Lodge.

He was also appointed as the government divisions chairman for the Community Chest drive, overseeing solicitations from city, county, state and national government employees.
