As winter nears, San Bernardino County Public Works is stepping up its efforts to safeguard communities impacted by the recent Bridge and Line fires. The aftermath of these fires has heightened the risk of flooding in affected areas, prompting proactive measures to mitigate potential hazards.

The Flood Control District (FCD) is actively collaborating with CalFire, the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team and the California Watershed Emergency Response Teams (WERTs) to prepare for potential floods in vulnerable areas. Public Works crews are clearing basins, channels and storm drains to prevent flooding, especially in fire-affected zones. Flood control teams are on 24/7 standby with equipment pre-positioned across the county for rapid response.

On Oct. 28, the Department of Public Works (DPW) took part in the Winter Coordination Meeting to review winter season preparations. The Operations Division, in collaboration with the Flood Control District, coordinated the placement of K-rail barriers in strategic locations within the Mt. Baldy community to enhance flood defense. Additionally, the Operations Division has been actively clearing debris from basins across the county, with recent efforts focused on the Highland area.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take proactive steps to protect themselves. For more information on flood preparedness, please visit prepare.sbcounty.gov.
