November is National Adoption Month, a time to raise awareness and celebrate the lasting bonds formed through adoption. This year’s theme is centered on raising awareness about the importance of building lifelong support systems for youth in foster care and connecting them with adoptive families that honor their background, including race, culture and ethnicity. Children and Family Services (CFS) plays a vital role in finding permanent, loving homes for youth when reunification with their biological families is no longer possible. CFS partners with foster family agencies to identify and prepare families, guiding adoptive parents through the process and offering support to help youth find stability and belonging in a new family environment.

Youth in foster care come from all walks of life, each with a unique story. They vary in age, come from various ethnicities and cultural backgrounds, and have unique needs that can make finding a forever home more challenging. Each of these youth, regardless of their circumstances, deserve safe, loving and permanent families to call their own. When youth find families who embrace their backgrounds and honor their unique journeys, they gain a true sense of belonging and a supportive environment where they can thrive and succeed.
