The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is passionate about shaping the future of our community by embracing innovative solutions and leveraging every opportunity to make a positive impact. Through new state initiatives and its leadership in the evolving behavioral health field, DBH is committed to providing exceptional support and care for those we serve.

DBH’s work is driven by several key initiatives and the next chief psychiatric medical director will play a pivotal role in the following:

  • The Progressive Integrated Care Collaborative (PICC)
    • Oversee continued implementation of a pilot program integrating physical and mental health care at the county’s Apple Valley outpatient clinic.
  • Senate Bill 43
    • Lead the implementation of SB43 regarding substantive changes to the Lanterman-Petris Short Act.
  • Laura’s Law
    • Evaluate the efficacy of Assisted Outpatient Treatment.
  • American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) standards
    • Oversee the implementation of ASAM Criteria 4.0.
  • The Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) Act
    • Manage implementation of the CARE Act, set to begin December 1, 2024.
  • Workforce Development programs
    • Work collaboratively with County Human Resources and department leadership to increase recruitment and retention efforts.
