Learn how to recycle organic resources, such as yard trimmings, as well as fruit and vegetable waste into compost for gardens. Join us at Mojave Narrows Regional Park on Saturday, April 5, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for a hands-on education activity. All supplies will be provided while they last.
Instead of putting organic waste into the garbage to be hauled to the landfill, learn to compost. All ages are welcome.
Park admission is $10 per vehicle and free for those camping with us. Mojave Narrows Regional Park is located at 18000 Yates Rd. in Victorville. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers camping, fishing, hiking, biking, picnic shelters and grills, a playground and splash pad. Mojave Narrows is pet-friendly and leashed pets are welcome too!

Victor Valley to host annual Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest

If creepy crawlies don’t give you the creeps, then maybe Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest will. Join us on Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Victor Valley Museum to celebrate all things creepy, crawly, sticky, prickly, wiggly, yucky and kind of cute. This family-friendly event promises an interactive, educational, and fun-filled experience for visitors of all ages, with special activities, live demonstrations, and expert-led conversations that explore the beauty and significance of the insect world.
This year’s events will guarantee a fascinating look into the world of insects through outdoor exploration and hands-on art activities, as well as face painting, food and local artisans. Stop by the Flutterby Ranch butterfly zone from 1 to 4 p.m. and enjoy an interactive and immersive experience designed to captivate, educate and provide an inside look into the enchanting world of butterflies.
“We are thrilled to bring Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest back to our museums and offer a deeper look into the fascinating world of insects,” said Curator of Integrated Biology Dr. Mackenzie Kirchner-Smith. “Insects are often overlooked, but they are vital to our ecosystem. Through this event, we hope to inspire visitors to develop a greater appreciation for these tiny creatures and the important roles they play.”
Highlights of Arthropolooza: The Ultimate Bugfest
- Live insect exhibits: Visitors can get up close to a variety of live insects, including butterflies, beetles and spiders, and learn from entomologists about their unique behaviors and characteristics.
- Insect-themed art show: Local artists will showcase their insect-inspired creations, from sculptures to paintings, celebrating the beauty and diversity of the insect world.
- Expert demonstrations: Renowned entomologists and conservationists will share insights on topics like insect conservation, the ecological impact of pollinators, and how to support local insect populations.
The Victor Valley Museum is located at 11873 Apple Valley Rd. in Apple Valley. The museum is open on Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $10 (adult), $8 (military or senior), $7 (student), and $5 (children ages 6 to 12). County Public Health hosts third annual Perinatal Equity Summit

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (DPH), in collaboration with the Riverside University Health System’s Perinatal Equity Initiative, invites perinatal care providers, professionals, and community members to the third annual Inland Empire Perinatal Equity Summit on Thursday, April 10, from 3 – 8 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 285 E. Hospitality Lane in San Bernardino.
This collaboration aims to advance health equity and improve the quality of life for Black and African American pregnant women and their families. The initiative focuses on addressing the high rates of maternal and infant mortality among Black and African American communities in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
This event will bring together a diverse group of professionals, including perinatal and behavioral health providers, midwives, doulas and birth workers, funders, policy makers, and advocates. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn CME and CEU credits in partnership with Loma Linda University.
The summit will feature Dr. Muhammad Khan, assistant clinical professor at UCSF Fresno who will present the latest research on perinatal substance use disorder and best practices, along with an exclusive fireside chat featuring experts who are driving change. Additionally, there will be a focus on advancing competency in implicit bias by Dr. Dotun Ogunyemi, associate dean and chair of OBGYN at Charles Drew University. Dr. Melissa Franklin, CEO of Growth Mindset Communications Consulting, will conclude the evening with a powerful keynote address on driving meaningful change in perinatal health.

In-N-Out Burger Cover to Cover Reading Program returns

The San Bernardino County Library is teaming up with In-N-Out Burger for its annual reading promotion event through April 12. The Cover to Cover program encourages kids in every community across the county to dive into books and earn a free hamburger or cheeseburger as a tasty reward.
To participate, simply sign up online through Beanstack at sbclib.beanstack.org. Every time a child reads five books or 300 pages, they’ll unlock an achievement award on Beanstack, and a voucher will be available at their local County Library branch. Children ages four to 12 are eligible to participate and must be present to redeem their vouchers. Each child can earn up to three awards throughout the program. Happy reading!

Regional Parks’ hours now extended through summer

Regional Parks’ spring and summer hours will be extended, beginning March 22 through Sept. 5, offering additional opportunities for communities to enjoy outdoor recreation later into the evening hours during daylight savings time.
Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen, Mojave Narrows, Prado and Yucaipa Regional Parks will be open daily until 7 p.m. from March 22 through April 4 and from April 5 through Sept. 5, the parks will be open until 8 p.m.
Whether it is coming out to fish, ride bikes, hike, barbecue with family and friends, or play ball with the family, Regional Parks offers many opportunities to recreate in a clean, safe environment. All parks are pet-friendly, as well!

Celebrate Earth Day at Victor Valley Museum with eco-friendly activities

Victor Valley Museum (VVM) is excited to invite the community to a special Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 19, where visitors can be creative, while learning how to care for the planet. This hands-on event will feature planet-friendly craft stations, allowing guests of all ages to turn recycled and natural materials into beautiful, sustainable creations.
Families, children and eco-enthusiasts can enjoy:
- Earth Day Crowns – Spark imagination by coloring your own Earth Day crown
- Wildflower Seed Bombs – Create pollinator-friendly wildflower seed bombs to grow at home.
- Reuse-Inspired Crafts – Color pages that provide a fun way for kids of all ages to learn the importance of recycling.

Lake Gregory hosts its first trout derby to mountain communities

Regional Parks and The Lake Gregory Company (the lake’s concessionaire) are pleased to announce its first trout derby to the mountain communities of Crestline on Saturday, April 19, from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All ages are welcome, and prizes will be awarded in adult and kid categories (ages 12 and under).
Adult category prizes:
- 1st place: $1,000
- 2nd place: $500
- 3rd place: $250
Kids category prizes:
- 1st place: Summer deluxe pass (includes Lake Gregory fishing pass)
- 2nd place: Lake Gregory annual fishing pass
- 3rd place: Rod and reel combo
Derby fees include:
- $26.50 general admission provides entry into the trout derby, allowing registrants to participate in the fishing event. It does not include parking or a raffle entry.
- $42.40 all-Inclusive pass offers everything in the general admission ticket, plus parking at the venue and more.
A state fishing license is required for ages 16 and over. Boat rentals will be available at the boathouse, beginning at 10 a.m. Participants may use their own coastguard-approved water vessels. A life vest must be onboard and accessible for each passenger. Gas motors are not permitted. Vessels must be 16 feet or less in size. Float tubes are also permitted. A Lake Gregory boat launch pass ($10) is required and can be purchased at lakegregory.com.
One fishing pole is allowed. Tickets for the derby must be purchased online by Friday, April 18, by 9 p.m. Tickets will not be available on the day of the event. Winners will be determined by the longest trout caught during the derby. If there is a tie, judges will go by the weight. Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m. and must be present to claim prize(s).

Regional Parks ‘eggstravaganza’ egg hunts return on Easter Sunday

Rain or shine Regional Parks is excited to host its annual Easter ‘eggstravaganza’ hunts on Sunday, April 20, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Join us for the egg hunt and get a photo op with the Easter bunny at Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen, Mojave Narrows, Prado and Yucaipa Regional Parks. Note: the duration of the egg hunts depends on attendance and how fast the eggs are found (while supplies last). All ages are welcome!
The bonus golden egg hunt offers participants a chance to find a hidden golden egg during the egg hunts at either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Find the golden egg and win an Easter basket. Two basket prizes are available at each park. Golden eggs must be turned in before 5 p.m. at the gatehouse to claim the basket.

Calico Ghost Town to host annual Easter Sunday celebration

Looking to do something different on Easter Sunday? Bring the family and hop on over to Calico Ghost Town, Sunday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for our family-friendly Easter celebration with egg hunts, photo ops with the Easter bunny, live music, games (including our famous egg toss), gunfighter performances, arts & crafts, food, shopping and more.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for youth (ages 4-11) and ages three and under are free.

Big Bear Alpine Zoo to host Run Wild Through Moonridge Fun Run/Walk

Join the Big Bear Alpine Zoo as we run wild through Moonridge! On Saturday, April 26, from 8 to 10:30 a.m., we invite you to take part in a fun run/walk through the beautiful surroundings of Big Bear. This 2.5-mile paved course winds through scenic Rathbun Creek and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, starting and finishing at Moonridge Coffee Co.
A suggested donation of $25 supports the zoo, and all participants will receive a medal and same-day admission to the zoo. Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo to host Bowling for the Zoo

The Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo (FOBBAZ) and the Big Bear Alpine Zoo are hosting “Bowling for the Zoo” on Sunday, April 27, at the Bowling Barn in Big Bear Lake Village to raise funds for supporting the wild animals that call the Big Bear Alpine Zoo home.
FOBBAZ was created in 1989 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit fundraising organization to assist the zoo. FOBBAZ supports the zoo through a wide range of activities to enhance the guest experience, while providing funds for medical, dental, and enrichment projects to better the lives of the animals in residence at the zoo.
We encourage our county neighbors and all animal lovers to help us reach our goal of raising $8,000 for the Big Bear Alpine Zoo by:
- Joining a bowling team – Gather a group of five members and contribute $100 per person to form a team. There will be 16 team slots available.
- Cash donations – Your cash contribution in any amount would be greatly appreciated and is tax deductible. Please make checks payable to: Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.
- Donate goods and services – We’re accepting items such as gift cards, gift certificates or services for the raffle and silent auction.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be utilized by FOBBAZ to further their mission of education and support for the Big Bear Alpine Zoo.
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo serves as a rehabilitation facility for injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals, providing temporary care during their healing process and a permanent home for those unable to survive in the wild.

Regional Parks to host second annual stargazing event at Mojave River Forks

Experience the park after dark and join us at Mojave River Forks on Saturday, May 17, from 7-10 p.m. to learn more about the stars, constellations and galaxies during this family-friendly event in Hesperia.
There are astronomy clubs on-hand to navigate eventgoers through the sky. Free refreshments, including free popcorn and hot chocolate will be available (while supplies last). Telescopes will be provided (on a limited basis) by Regional Parks or bring your own.
Bring your camping chairs, blankets, snacks and coolers, and sit back for this cosmic adventure.
Participate in games and activities and visit the Library Adventure Truck and County Museum booth. A food truck will be on-hand for hungry appetites.
NOTE: Mojave River Forks is a campground, and we recommend dressing appropriately for the event.
Due to the location and limited cell and Wi-Fi service at the campground, we are only accepting cash or prepaid admission for this event.
Admission is $10 per vehicle. Free for those camping with us. All ages are welcome, including leashed pets.
