A Japanese media press group recently visited Calico Ghost Town as part of their Route 66 tour organized by Discover IE, a local marketing organization.

The tourists traveled to destinations along Route 66, including the city of Needles, Goffs Schoolhouse, Roy’s Motel & Café in Amboy, the Bagdad Café and the Barn on Route 66, the city of Barstow, California Route 66 Mother Road Museum and the California Route 66 Museum.

“The opportunity to welcome the Japanese media signifies that Calico Ghost Town continues to be a travel destination for visitors across the world,” said Beahta Davis, director of Regional Parks.

Walter Knott, founder of Knott’s Berry Farm, rebuilt and donated Calico Ghost Town to San Bernardino County in 1960, which is managed by the department of Regional Parks. Calico, an Old West silver mining town from 1880, received its historical landmark status in 2005.
