Children and Family Services (CFS) recently hosted their 16th Annual Sports Faire, bringing together foster and probation youth for a day of sports, connection and empowerment. The celebration at Wilmer Amina Carter High School in Rialto brought together youth ages 11-18 for a transformative day focused on learning fundamental skills of team sports, sportsmanship and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. attended the event and spoke to the youth, offering words of encouragement and celebrating their participation in this important community event.
The Sports Faire offered various activities from traditional team sports to dance, cheer and boxing, allowing participants to discover new interests and step out of their comfort zones. For many foster youth, the event provided authentic human connection and mentorship opportunities. The day created a safe space where participants could form new friendships and experience teamwork.
The event’s impact extended beyond the day’s activities, providing hope and inspiration to youth who often lack consistent mentorship and support. One participant said, “The event was such a fun day out. You get to hang out with people you don’t know, and it really gives you hope because people are actually there for you. And one day you can actually become one of these advocates and be a better person than you are.”
The 16th Annual Sports Faire was more than a recreational activity; it honored each youth’s potential and reminded participants that they have bright futures and a community that believes in them.
