San Bernardino County Child Support Services 16 wins NACo Achievement Awards, demonstrating the department’s innovation and dedication to helping families thrive.

San Bernardino County Child Support Services is proud to celebrate a record achievement. This year, Child Support Services received 16 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards, the highest number in the department’s history.

The NACo Achievement Awards honor county programs across the nation that improve services, build community partnerships and create new ways to reach residents. This year’s awards show Child Support Services’ strong commitment to innovation and to helping families thrive.

Two standout programs include:

The Joy of Giving event
Hosted by the department’s Fatherhood Committee, this holiday event was created to celebrate the important role of fathers and to provide a joyful experience for families. The committee worked with community partners and donors, including Toys for Tots and Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County, to collect more than 700 toys for children.

Families attending the event were welcomed with activities, photos with Santa and the chance to receive age-appropriate toys. Every child attending the event went home with a gift.

In addition to the holiday cheer, parents were connected to important resources. The San Bernardino Public Defender’s Office offered record expungement assistance, the Family Law Facilitator provided court guidance, and Child Support Services staff were available to answer child support questions. With the help of community partners like Smile Star Kids Dental, San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department’s-Fatherhood F.I.R.E. Program, and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s victim advocate, families also received valuable support and resources for long-term stability.

Collaboration with the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO)
Child Support Services and DAPO work together to support parolees as they re-enter society while also helping them meet their child support responsibilities. This collaboration combines education, resources and compassionate guidance to break down barriers and build trust.

Through workshops and one-on-one support, parolees gain clear information about child support and access to services that reduce stress and support family stability. Events like the Second Chance Expo highlight the community’s commitment to positive change and provide a path toward long-term success. By reducing barriers and offering hope, this partnership strengthens families and communities alike.

Together, these award-winning programs—and the many others recognized this year—show how San Bernardino County Child Support Services is committed to creating innovative, accessible and impactful services for parents and children across the county.
