On Feb. 11, the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office brought its Mobile Defense Program to the Joshua Tree Community Resource Fair, delivering free legal assistance and access to essential county services for residents.
Community members met with public defender staff, resolved court matters through virtual court access, and received assistance with record clearing and outstanding fines. In total, 133 individuals received legal assistance during the event, with many also connecting to additional county services in the Morongo Basin.
The event featured multiple county departments, several of which deployed mobile units to provide services directly on site. Participating departments included Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, the San Bernardino County Department of Child Support Services, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, the San Bernardino County Human Resources Department, the San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department and the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Department.
By bringing mobile resources directly to the community, county partners expanded access to health screenings, behavioral health support, employment services, public benefits assistance and child support resources. Residents were able to address legal matters while connecting with vital services close to home, reducing the need for long-distance travel.
The monthly Joshua Tree Community Resource Fair is a collaboration between San Bernardino County Special Districts and the Morongo Unified School District. Held every second Wednesday at the Joshua Tree Community Center, the event brings together local and county agencies to serve families in remote communities.
“This monthly resource fair began as a collaboration with the Morongo Unified School District to address the need for local residents to access services without having to travel long distances,” said Tammie Moore, district services coordinator for San Bernardino County Special Districts CSA 20. “With the support of our county partners, especially the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s Office, this event has become a one-stop shop where community members can learn about and access the services they are eligible for.”
The next Mobile Defense Program event will take place Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at The River’s Edge Ranch in Lucerne Valley. To register or learn more, visit PD.SBCounty.gov/Events or follow the Public Defender’s Office on Facebook, X and Instagram.
