We would like to thank Heather Hill of Redlands for submitting outstanding photos that showcase another remarkable destination in our county.
Little Charlton Peak, located within the San Gorgonio Wilderness, rises to 10,600 feet. It is one of the lesser-visited peaks above 10,000 feet and is also one of the featured summits in the popular 9-Peak Challenge.
The hike begins at the South Fork Trailhead near Angelus Oaks and follows the Dollar Lake Trail. While the scenery is spectacular, hikers should be prepared for a challenging journey. The trail covers approximately 14 miles roundtrip and includes nearly 3,800 feet of elevation gain.
For those who go on the hike, they will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the San Gorgonio high country. From the summit, hikers will be able to see Jepson Peak and San Gorgonio Mountain, the highest peaks in Southern California.
Visitors should note that a wilderness permit is required to enter the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Permits are free and available through the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association. A parking pass is also required to park in the South Fork trailhead parking lot. A parking day pass can be purchased at the Mill Creek Ranger Station at the kiosk outside the office.
