A day at one of San Bernardino County Regional Parks’ locations might include a morning fishing trip, a walk along a scenic trail, a family picnic or an afternoon cooling off at a splash pad. While visitors enjoy the outdoors, a dedicated team of Regional Parks employees is already hard at work behind the scenes to help make every visit clean, safe and welcoming.
As part of the county’s new “Explore San Bernardino County Services” campaign, residents are invited to discover the services that enhance everyday life across the nation’s largest county by geographic area. One of those essential services is the work performed each day by the staff who operate and maintain the county’s parks.
The Regional Parks system includes eight regional parks, a historic ghost town, a nature preserve and a regional trail that provide recreation, outdoor education and family-friendly activities in mountain, valley and desert communities throughout San Bernardino County.
From the moment the gates open, Regional Parks employees work together to prepare each location for thousands of visitors. Staff greet guests, issue entrance passes and help answer questions, ensuring every visitor starts their day with a positive experience.
Throughout the parks, maintenance crews mow lawns, care for trees and landscaping, inspect playgrounds and picnic areas, and maintain trails and recreational facilities. They also repair irrigation systems, maintain park infrastructure and help preserve the natural beauty that visitors enjoy year-round.
Keeping Regional Parks clean is another important part of the team’s daily work. Employees remove litter, power wash public areas, empty trash receptacles and maintain restrooms and other shared spaces so families can enjoy a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Safety is also a top priority. Staff regularly inspect park facilities, identify potential hazards and work to create a safe experience for visitors while protecting the county’s natural resources.
Although much of this work happens before visitors arrive or behind the scenes throughout the day, it plays an essential role in making every visit enjoyable. Across San Bernardino County, Regional Parks offers something for every type of outdoor enthusiast — from swimming, fishing and boating to camping, hiking and family gatherings. Behind each of those experiences is a team of county employees dedicated to serving the community with pride.
