San Bernardino County is weathering a strong winter storm with possible heavy snow and flash floods on tap for the mountain communities and threats to communities downstream of the areas burned by September’s Line and Bridge wildfires.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through Saturday morning. Residents are urged to prepare by signing up for emergency phone and text alerts and accessing resources available at Preparedness Starts Here. Motorists are advised to use caution and, as always, no snow play in the roadways!

San Bernardino County Public Works, County Fire, the Sheriff’s Department, Homeless Services and Office of Emergency Services are working with state and local partners to keep residents safe and respond to storm-related incidents.

Public Works activated flood control teams at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and they will remain activated through the storm. Snow removal and flood control equipment was pre-staged in Public Works yards throughout the threatened areas and plowing was to commence non-stop once two inches of snow accumulated.

County Fire and the Sheriff have resources deployed to perform swift-water rescues. Teams from Public Works, Sheriff and Homeless Services have been in the field evacuating and housing residents experiencing homelessness.

Rain could return as soon as late Sunday and extend into Monday.
