During April, the San Bernardino County Probation Department proudly partnered with affiliate members of the Los Angeles Internet Crimes Against Children (LA ICAC) Task Force to conduct “Operation Spring Cleaning,” a targeted compliance operation focused on individuals under supervision for sex offenses involving electronic technology and child abuse offenses.
This year marked a significant milestone, as ICAC task forces nationwide synchronized efforts to conduct this operation across the country during the same time period. As long-standing members of the LA ICAC Task Force, the San Bernardino County Probation Department receives federal support for training and equipment, enabling the department to investigate crimes involving the exploitation of children through digital means.
Over the course of the two-week operation, San Bernardino County probation officers carried out extensive compliance checks, both locally and across neighboring counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego, to ensure accountability among supervised individuals residing outside the county. A total of 70 compliance checks were conducted on individuals convicted of sex offenses involving the use of electronic technology, resulting in 44 arrests. Additionally, 52 checks were performed on individuals under supervision for child abuse offenses, leading to eight arrests. The Probation Department commends the efforts of our officers and partnering agencies whose work during this operation reinforces the integrity and accountability of our justice system.
This operation underscores the San Bernardino County Probation Department’s dedication to protecting vulnerable populations, holding offenders accountable, and working collaboratively across jurisdictions to maintain community safety. As the digital landscape evolves, so too must our enforcement strategies. The Probation Department’s partnership with ICAC and participation in operations like these demonstrate the continued commitment to evolving law enforcement practices that respond to modern threats.
