San Bernardino County is sharing a video from the 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, which captured hundreds of volunteers, members of the Board of Supervisors and Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Josie Gonzales as they canvassed cities, towns and unincorporated areas to support the unhoused community and collect critical data.
The annual PIT Count expanded on previous efforts through additional field resources and enhanced coordination. A mobile team was available during the count to respond in real time and connect individuals experiencing homelessness with emergency housing, temporary shelter and supportive services.
To further strengthen the effort, the county expanded how information was shared with volunteers by launching a Story Map. The Story Map provided materials that helped prepare volunteers for the PIT Count and supported them in the field.
According to the 2025 PIT Count, 3,821 individuals were experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in the county, which reflected a 10.2 percent decrease. In comparison, the overall homeless population increased by 1 percent in 2024, 26 percent in 2023 and 6.6 percent in 2022. Last yearโs results indicated progress in addressing homelessness.
The PIT Count is conducted annually and is a key component in securing state and federal grant funding to support individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Results from the 2026 PIT Count will be released later this year and will help inform future planning and service delivery.
