The San Bernardino County Library is proud to join Jumpstart in celebrating the 20th anniversary of Read for the Record, a national initiative that brings millions of adults and children together to read the same book on the same day, underscoring the critical importance of early literacy.
On Feb. 26, the County Library will participate by featuring this year’s selected book, See Marcus Grow, written by Marcus Bridgewater and illustrated by Reggie Brown. Library branches throughout San Bernardino County will host storytimes in support of the event. Community members are encouraged to contact their local SBCL branch for specific storytime details.
For those unable to attend in person, See Marcus Grow will also be available to read online through the County Library’s digital library, ensuring access for families across the county.
This year’s featured book, See Marcus Grow, introduces young readers to the joys of gardening while exploring themes of curiosity, discovery, nurturing and growth. Written by Marcus Bridgewater—also known as the social media sensation “Garden Marcus”—the story draws inspiration from lessons he learned in his grandmother’s garden. Through vibrant illustrations and heartfelt storytelling, the book highlights the parallels between caring for plants and supporting children’s development, reminding readers that both need water, air, sunshine and space to grow.
By participating in Read for the Record, the County Library reaffirms its commitment to early literacy and lifelong learning. Reading together not only strengthens family and community bonds but also helps build brighter futures for the county’s youngest learners.
