We would like to thank Linda McCann of Redlands for submitting exceptional photos that capture the beauty of our county.
Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is widely known as a vital wildlife corridor connecting the San Gorgonio Wilderness, the San Bernardino National Forest and Joshua Tree National Park.
The 30,000-acre preserve includes Big Morongo Regional Park, a 200-acre area owned by San Bernardino County. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the county, the Bureau of Land Management oversees the land with support from the Friends of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve and other volunteer groups.
The area offers a variety of trails to walk and hike, including an ADA accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. This corridor enables wildlife, including mule deer, big horn sheep and mountain lions, to move freely within this area and is recognized internationally as a birding site. Through guided tours, you can see more than 247 bird species, including at least 72 that breed in the area.
